# What You'll Need:

→ Cake

01 - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
02 - 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
03 - 1/2 teaspoon salt
04 - 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
05 - 2 cups granulated sugar
06 - 4 large eggs
07 - 1 cup whole milk
08 - 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

→ Buttercream Frosting

09 - 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
10 - 4 cups powdered sugar
11 - 2–3 tablespoons milk
12 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
13 - Pinch of salt

→ Decoration

14 - 2 pounds white fondant
15 - Gel food coloring in desired colors
16 - Edible black food marker or black fondant
17 - Cornstarch for rolling fondant

# How to Make It:

01 - Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and line a 9x13-inch cake pan with parchment paper.
02 - Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a mixing bowl.
03 - Beat butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition.
04 - Mix in vanilla extract. Alternately add flour mixture and milk, starting and ending with flour, mixing until just combined.
05 - Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Cool completely in the pan.
06 - Beat softened butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, milk, vanilla extract, and pinch of salt, beating until fluffy and spreadable.
07 - Once the cake has cooled, remove it from the pan. Use a serrated knife to carve the cake into a jersey shape, with curved shoulders and armhole indentations.
08 - Cover the carved cake with a thin layer of buttercream to seal in crumbs. Chill for 30 minutes.
09 - Color white fondant using gel food coloring to match desired team colors. Roll out fondant on a cornstarch-dusted surface to about 1/8 inch thickness.
10 - Carefully drape rolled fondant over the chilled cake, smoothing the surface and trimming any excess.
11 - Use additional colored fondant or edible markers to decorate the cake with jersey elements such as collar, numbers, name, stripes, and graduation year.
12 - Transfer the decorated cake onto a serving board for display.

# Expert Tips:

01 -
  • No need for professional cake skills—fondant hides every wobble and makes every shape pop.
  • It’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, especially when personalized with a favorite number or team colors.
02 -
  • If you rush fondant, it'll tear—take your time rolling and covering.
  • Chilling the cake firmly before decoration stops crumbs from showing through or ruining clean jersey lines.
03 -
  • Shape the cake before frosting—you’ll see flaws that can be fixed with buttercream.
  • A fondant smoother is worth the investment for seamless edges and polished appearance.
